IBANAT helicopter dousing factory.
EMERGENCY services attended a factory fire, in Son Llaüt at Santa Maria Island, in the premises of ice cream maker Frigo on the morning of Tuesday August 30 when a truck and a number of pallets caught fire.
Firefighters, including a helicopter which dropped water, rushed to the scene to try to ensure that the fire did not spread to a nearby tract of cultivated woodland.
After five hours fighting the fire, the officers from Inca, Sóller, Llucmajor and Calvia with the assistance of the helicopter of the Balearic Nature Agency IBANAT managed to extinguish the fire completely without damage to the woodland although there was a huge cloud of heavy smoke in the vicinity of the fire for several hours.
