AN UNEXPECTED guest took residents and tourists in Benidorm by surprise when it dropped gracefully atop of one of the Costa Blanca city’s many skyscrapers. The griffon vulture, whose natural habitat is likely the Serra Gelada natural park, stunned onlookers by appearing on the terrace of a busy city centre hotel.
The poor creature appeared to be disorientated and quick thinking neighbours called the local police, who in turn contacted the specialist rural patrol. Within moments a team of highly skilled personnel were on the scene and rescued the young vulture, who they identified as suffering from malnutrition, leading to disorientation.
The animal was treated and transported to the Mundomar park for an examination, before being brought to the Centre of Species Recovery in Santa Faz where it will hopefully heal and be back in the skies in a matter of weeks.
