TWO boat captains, working for different companies that transport passengers between Santa Pola and Tabarca Island, have tested positive in a police drugs test.
Guardia Civil carried out the test on the captain of a speedboat which has a capacity of 46 passengers, while the other person who tested positive works on a catamaran.
The Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil found both were under the influence of drugs and as a result both companies received an official letter from the Harbour Master urging that the captains be suspended until the situation is resolved.
In addition, they will also receive a fine for driving under the influence of drugs.
Just last week we reported that the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil were increasing patrols on boats with a total of 1,143 inspections of vessels carried out so far this year in the Valencia Region. They revealed 317 have been fined for failing to comply with the rules. Of these, 142 fines were made in Alicante Province.
