Villaricos dreams on

RAP LEGEND: Star 50 cent was among the performers.

THIS was Dreambeach Villaricos music festival’s best year yet with a bumper 160,000 people turning up for the event, the organisers have reported.

The fourth edition of the festival, which included performances by more than 100 artists over four days and employed 900 people to keep it all running smoothly, saw the beachside campsite packed with partygoers and local hotels hanging out the ‘no rooms’ signs as visitors to the festival filled every available space.

More than 200 journalists from 82 different publications covered the event, which welcomed 35,000 people through the gates on Thursday 11, the opening night, 52,000 on Friday, 53,000 on Saturday and 20,000 on Sunday.

Yet all ran smoothly considering the number of people attending, the organisers reported, and the public behaved well at all times kept under control by a security team consisting of members of Civil Protection, Local Police, Guardia Civil and the fire brigades from Cuevas del Almanzora, Villaricos and Palomares.

Preparations are already underway for next year’s edition of the festival.

For the most nearby residential area of Cala Marques (last part of Vera Playa), the Dreambeach festival was horrendous. As the wind was primarily coming from the east turning to coming from the north during the nights, the pueblo of Cuevas and Villaricos could sleep well, but instead Cala Marques had to endure 4 sleepless nights, much garbage on streets and beach, too many intoxicated people, too many intrusions of private pools and showers and insecurity. For sure many residents will leave the area next year at Dreambeach and the traditional family tourists will stay away. We cannot understand that the organisation never consulted us before or after the event. Surely the fact that we are part of the municipality of Vera cannot be the reason, as our residential area is most near to the new festival terrain and clearly would be hit the most hard. As it did !
