A GROUP of five, who manufactured counterfeit €200 banknotes has been dismantled in Valencia, Murcia and Ciudad Real.
The Guardia Civil operation said the two men and three women arrested are accused of involvement in crimes of belonging to a criminal organisation, counterfeiting, fraud and threats.
It is believed they used the fake money across numerous stores in Spain. They would buy something of little value and use a real €200 note to pay for it. When the store employee checked it they would cause a scene asking why they were checking it, citing racial reasons and demanding the note back.
After threatening and causing a stressful situation for the employee they would then pay again but with the fake €200 in the hope that the clerk did not check that note and quickly fled in a waiting car.
