Festival about to kick off

FIREWORK FINALE: From last year.

ALMUÑECAR is adding the finishing touches to preparations for its festival of the Virgen de la Antigua. The festival will be held from Tuesday August 9 to Monday August 15.

The programme for the festival was presented on Tuesday (August 2) by the councillor for festivals, Maria del Mar Medina, who said 10,000 copies have already been distributed.

The festival has a broad range of activities available. On Paseo Blas Infante, stalls operated by religious brotherhoods, political parties and the municipality will be present. A concert will be staged in the Francisco Bonet Municipal Stadium, with Huelva singer Manuel Carrasco showcasing his latest work. From August 10 to the August 13, a festival will be held on Calle Pintor Manuel Rivera, from 1pm to 7pm.

Medina said that many different activities will be provided in the mornings for youngsters, ranging from workshops through to sandcastle making, a foam party and ‘many games.’ Children’s entertainment will also be provided in the afternoon, with Medina saying there will be a variety of activities available in the town’s gymnasiums. These will “enliven the Altillo area” she said.

The grand finale will be the religious procession of the virgin, the town’s patron saint, culminating in a large fireworks display.
