A TURTLE that underwent surgery has been returned to the sea in Torrevieja. ‘Coral’ the loggerhead turtle was caught by the Fishermen’s Association of Gandia and required surgery after swallowing a hook, which left her in a life-threatening condition. After three weeks of observation, the turtle has been released.
Councillor of the Environment, Fanny Serrano, stressed the importance of supporting the campaign to raise awareness of the turtles and wants to encourage more rescues in the future and remind fishermen that by bringing them back to land they can often recover and be released back into the ocean. Anyone finding a turtle should call 112.
The head of the Guardia Civil is also pleased with this outcome and said that it is great “to share this moment with the rest of the groups involved.”
