AN investigation has been opened into the mysterious death of a 72-year-old British man, whose body was found close to a salt marsh near the resort town of Torrevieja on Tuesday, August 2.
A horrified family stumbled across his remains as they were out for an evening stroll, and initial reports suggested there were no obvious signs of violence on the cadaver, with a post mortem set to reveal further details.
Local news reports revealed that he was discovered in a semi-naked state in an area which was “difficult to access,” and it is yet to be confirmed whether he was on holiday or resident on the Costa Blanca.
A Guardia Civil spokesman said: “I can confirm the body of a 72-year-old British man was discovered on Tuesday evening around 8.25pm near to marshes by Torrevieja salt lake.
“There were no signs of violence on the body but we have opened an investigation to try to discover what happened and a post-mortem is taking place this morning.
“There have been no reports of any disappearances in the area.”
