RUN-DOWN: The lighthouse in Torre del Mar.
THE dilapidated lighthouse in Torre del Mar is set to be refurbished, after the Velez-Malaga Council awarded a €50,000 contract to optimistic local company Atico Metal, who say that the work will be complete within two months.
Scheduled to begin this week, the refurbishment is “necessary now as a historical revindication of the town, to undertake the restoration of an emblematic building,” according to deputy mayor, Jesus Perez Atencia.
The planned jobs include rehabilitation of the interior and exterior of the building, plus the adjacent booth, while the spiral staircase will be repaired, as the council plan to install a small information centre and plaques.

Hi Terry, apologies for this, the story was taken from a press release I genuinely had no idea that there were two lighthouses in Torre del Mar!
Thanks a lot for pointing out the error, and we’ve now changed the offending photo.
