EXTRA OFFICE: Mijas now meets guidelines of one office per 10,000 inhabitants.
A NEW Social Services unit is to open in Las Lagunas, where residents will be able to go for information and help, Social Matters Councillor for Mijas Mari Carmen Carmona has announced.
The office, which will deal with all social services-related matters, will be the eighth in the municipality of Mijas, thus meeting guidelines which recommend one office per 10,000 inhabitants, the councillor explained.
This, Carmona said, will hopefully also help reduce waiting lists for appointments, currently at an average of three months, and the department hopes that once summer is over and normal service resumes those requiring attention will not have to wait more than a week at the most to be seen.
The office will be manned by a psychologist, social worker and social educator.
