Mayor José Bernal arriving at La Sala in the Sky.

THERE was much excitement and a few nervous looks as guests awaited the arrival of Mayor of Marbella José Bernal so that the first lift-off of La Sala in the Sky, an innovative new dining experience from this forward-thinking restaurant group could take place on the evening of July 11.

Just 22 guests can be strapped in to a special dining table which is then hoisted 50 metres into the sky whilst fantastic local chef Aitor Perurena and his team serve a range of delicacies as well as some exceptional wine, and there will be daily ‘flights’ from the launch pad next to Aqwa Mist Banus until September.

The concept is one that has run since 2006 around the world, but this is the first time that it has made an appearance in the Costa del Sol, and it is the La Sala group that has picked up the challenge of organising this incredible dining experience.

There are two watchwords to this concept, exclusivity and safety, with every guest given full instructions on how to behave, with all staff wearing secured safety harnesses and with the crane operator in radio contact with the platform and safety observers on the ground.

It’s by no means cheap, but it is an unparalleled experience which Forbes magazine has named one of the world’s most extravagant meals. There will be four journeys each day, subject, of course, to the weather, with a choice of a 45-minute Cava and Canapés Experience costing €99 plus IVA all the way to the late-night 70-minute Fantasy Dinner Experience, which includes a fine degustation menu and entertainment at €290 plus IVA.

Bookings have to be made in advance by calling 952 814 145 or by email to info@lasalainthesky.com. You can see more about the experience and how to book a corporate or special exclusive evening at www.lasalainthesky.com.
