Better late than never as Marc Anthony wows San Pedro

WHY ARE WE WAITING: Revellers await their hero on a sweltering San Pedro evening.

AN ECSTATIC crowd of more than 15,000 descended on San Pedro de Alcantara to take in a concert by tropical salsa superstar Marc Anthony on Saturday, July 9.

The show, which lasted less than two hours, was generally well-received, although organisers have come under heavy fire from some attendees who lambasted the parking arrangements, exorbitant drinks prices, and heavy delay which saw the New Yorker eventually take the stage at 11.30pm.

Support act Frank Reyes was left to bear the brunt of the audience’s ire, although the boos soon turned to cheers once Anthony hit the stage, belting out the hit ‘Valio la pena’ in a strong opening, following up with more of his best-known tracks such as ‘Y hubo alguien’ and ‘Flor palida.’

More nitpicking ensued as the man who has registered a record-breaking 26 Billboard number ones and sold 12 million albums worldwide could only muster a two-song encore for his enraptured fans, although most seemed happy enough, given the ongoing lack of gigs of this magnitude on the Costa del Sol.
