THE Gibraltar Marine Unit and Outfield Officers of HM Customs were kept busy in the first weekend of July.

On the afternoon of Saturday July 2, HMC Seeker was involved in a chase with a Spanish jet-ski off the east side of Gibraltar which resulted in it jettisoning one bale of cannabis weighing approximately 30 kilos, which has an estimated value of £150,000 (€180,000). The jet-ski, however, made good its escape into Spain.

In a separate incident during the early hours of Monday July 4, a high-powered RHIB being chased by a vessel of the Spanish Customs Surveillance Service ran aground at Catalan Bay and although HM Customs seized the vessel, despite an intensive search of the area they were unable to locate the crew.
