Farewell to the sounds of Norway

THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC: Culture councillor Olga Ruano presented diplomas to musicians.

MORE than 350 Norwegian musicians have spent over a week in Almuñecar taking part in the fourth Tropical Norwegian Bands Festival of Almuñecar, which ended with a four-hour final concert and closing ceremony on Plaza de la Constitucion.

Before an audience of hundreds of people, Norwegian bands Ostre Halsen Skolekorps, Skolekorpsene I Nannestad and Husebyskolenes musikkorps kicked off the evening before being joined by the Almuñecar Musical Band and La Pollinica Band from Marbella with musicians playing traditional Spanish compositions along with modern and popular tunes.

The final piece, from the opera El Gato Montes, was played by all the musicians together for a triumphant end to the event before local Culture councillor Olga Ruano and event promoter Peter Claëssons took to the stage to award the musicians with diplomas and bring the festival to an end.

Ruano, in Spanish and English, spoke of how well the event had gone and praised the bands who took part. “Thanks for your visit and for your music. Almuñecar will always be here waiting for you to return,” she said, expressing her pleasure when Claëssons announced that six bands have already signed up for next year’s festival.
