THE Minister for Sport, the Hon Steven Linares MP, is optimistic that two local football teams will do well in European competitions starting next week.

“Following the draws for both the UEFA Champions and Europa League Qualifying stages, I am certain that both Lincoln Red Imps FC and Europa FC will perform creditably and obtain positive results. “There has been much talk of potential high profile second-round opponents, but both clubs are professional enough not to take anything for granted and I am sure all their efforts are concentrated on their first-round opponents. Past experiences in these competitions will help both teams and I wish them well.”

Lincoln Red Imps FC have been drawn against Flora Tallinn (Estonia) and they will play the first leg away at the 9,692-seat Lilleküla Stadium in the last week of June with Europa FC measuring themselves against Pyunik Yerevan (Armenia), the first leg being at home at the Victoria Stadium on Thursday, June 30th.

In the event that Lincoln Red Imps overcome Flora, their next opponents would be the mighty Celtic.
