FOUR spectators have suffered serious injuries in an accident during the Calvia Rallysprint.
The accident occurred just before 1pm on Saturday (June 18) between Coll de sa Creu and Coll des Tords approximately one kilometre from the military base when one of the rally cars came off the road hitting four spectators.
Rally sources said that security had warned the four people earlier that they could not be on the curve to watch the event. After the security officer had left the area, however, they returned to the curve.
All four are in serious condition. One of the victims suffered a spinal cord injury and another has had a foot amputated. Both are in Son Espases Hospital. A third victim suffered trauma to the chest and extremities and was taken to Clinica Rotger. The fourth has broken limbs is in Clinica Juaneda.
