Michelle Obama to visit Spain with daughters and mum at the end of June

FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA is to hit Spain at the end of June, as part of a goodwill trip which will also include jaunts to Liberia and Morocco, within the White House’s ‘Let Girls Learn’ initiative.

Accompanied by daughters, Malia and Sasha, and mother Marian Robinson, she will meet Queen Letizia and give a speech regarding the importance of education for girls.

The First Lady is scheduled to land in Liberia on June 27, where she will visit a Peace Corps Training Facility in Kakata, meeting with girls and young women participating in a leadership camp, before meeting Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first woman elected to lead an African nation.

She will then depart for a two day junket to Morocco accompanied by actresses Meryl Streep and Freida Pinto, who are fellow women’s rights advocates, participating in a panel discussion moderated by CNN’s Isha Sesay regarding educational challenges facing girls in the country.

Madrid will be her final destination of the trip, where she will meet with Queen Letizia before delivering a speech about the ‘Let Girls Learn’ scheme and her experiences in Africa and other parts of the world.

The tour will end just a few days prior to husband Barack Obama’s first visit to Spain, which is pencilled in for July 9, as rumours that the couple’s eldest daughter Malia will spend her gap year at the US Embassy in the Spanish capital persist.
