IT was a record turnout for the sixth annual Walk for Life event from Playa Flamenca Promenade.
Yet again ably organised by Maria Wilson and her team of Pink Ladies and Pink Panthers volunteers, with assistance from Orihuela Town Hall, hundreds turned out to take part in the walk to raise funds for the AECC, including councillor for the Coast, Sofia Alvarez.
Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey had been asked to officially start the walk and said he was honoured to be part of such an event, raising vital funds for the cancer charity, something close to his heart with both himself and his wife having been diagnosed with the disease.
Maria Wilson thanked everyone who had helped organise the event, the participants and all the performers who kept the crowds entertained throughout the afternoon. Over €13,000 was raised from last year’s walk and it is hoped this year’s figure will surpass that once all donations have been collected.
