SEPRONA, the nature protection arm of the Guardia Civil, have attempted to save a pair of young little owls, Athene noctua, although one of them failed to survive.

The baby predators appeared in an Almeria nursing home, with staff alerting the police, but on arrival they discovered that the owlets were extremely dehydrated, and according to reports one of them sadly died during a veterinary inspection.

Following a short period of recuperation, the remaining owl was taken to the CREA. Centre for Recovery of Endangered Species, who will aim to release the animal once it is old enough to survive by itself.
