Presidential candidate Trump bunkered by PGA

SC

Donald Trump.

IT’S AS if a scriptwriter for a US comedy had sat down with his colleagues and tried to find an amusing way of presenting an irritated Donald Trump and low and behold, truth is indeed stranger than fiction, with the PGA cancelling one of its tournaments normally held at a Trump golf course and transferring it to Mexico!

Unsurprisingly Mr Trump is incandescent over this as a large part of his nomination campaign has centred squarely on illegal migrants from Mexico and the way in which the American economy has been affected by cheap labour and illegal entry.

According to the PGA, they have had to move the 2017 World Golf Championship from Mr Trump’s Doral course in Miami because they couldn’t find any sponsor, ostensibly because of the businessman’s current profile which has polarised America between those who love him and those who don’t.

Whilst he may have been irritated by any cancellation, it is the move to Mexico and a seven year sponsorship deal with Grupo Salinas that has infuriated him and encouraged the comment that the PGA had “put profit ahead of thousands of American jobs”.

Always one to shoot from the hip, he also said to Fox News “I hope they have kidnapping insurance” and the PGA have confirmed that they do.

Although not particularly vocal about the Brexit referendum, Mr Trump is broadly in favour of Britain leaving the EU, saying about the relationship with Britain should the vote go in favour of leaving “I don’t think they’ll be hurt at all. I mean, they’ll have to make their own deal. Britain’s been a great ally,”

Always ready to be around for a sound bite, however, it is coincidental that he will flying to Scotland to discuss his business investments there on June 24, the day that the result of the referendum is due to be announced.
