Mayor agrees to Torrevieja’s Local Police demands of a shift change

HOURS CHANGE: Police get the change in shift they have been asking for over the last few years.

A NEW shift plan for Torrevieja’s Local Police force has been agreed.

Mayor Jose Manuel Dolon, said that the local government has accepted the proposal of the ‘7×7’ change called for by officers which means they will work seven consecutive days and then have seven days off.

It is hoped the move will bring peace to the force that held several demonstrations and protests during the previous term of the PP, about their working conditions and hours.

Dolon did however say that as the force has such a high level of absenteeism, the change would not apply to those with a low attendance rate, which was met by some scepticism by unions who argued if they were off sick it was not absenteeism.

Figures show that 25 per cent of the workforce has been on sick leave at some point in recent months.
