COLOUR FESTIVAL: The Holi festival has become popular on the island in recent years (2015 pictured).

PALMA’S Plaza Major was packed on Saturday (May 7) for the celebration of an Indian Hindu festival welcoming spring, called Holi. Despite the rain, more than 2,000 people attended the colourful celebration featuring typical Indian music and dance.

Attendees donned white clothes for the celebration, also known as the festival of colours. During the festivities, participants threw an array of coloured powder in the air, showering the attendees with a rainbow of colours.

The multi-coloured Holi powder, made from rice flour, was dispersed three times during the colourful event, which started at 6pm and finished around 10pm.

These festivities, which are organised by the Holi Mallorca Festival of India, have been gaining popularity on the island in recent years.
