DOG rescue centre ‘Maz’s Canine Rescue,’ near Albox has gone from strength to strength since relocating to a new premises earlier this year.
Founder and operator of the centre, 64-year-old Maz, has managed to rehome a number of dogs in the past few months, but the need for homes is never-ending with more stray and abandoned dogs arriving every week.
Social media has proved to be a useful tool in spreading the word of the need for volunteers, donations and other kinds of help and the Facebook page now has almost 2,000 followers.
Julie, who manages the Facebook page has come up with a unique way of sharing the rescue centre’s news by creating a monthly newsletter with ‘Lua’ one of the rescue dogs, ‘editing’ the article.
With Julie’s assistance, Lua tells tales (or tails) of life in the kennels and introduces readers to the many characters who call the centre home.
Lua also gave a ‘shout-out’ for donations to a car boot sale planned in the next few weeks, any donations of clothes, household goods or bric-a-brac can be left at The Post Shop/Sol y Mar, Avenida de Febrero 28 in Albox.
A sad story in the newsletter was the death of new canine arrival, Pedro, who was in such a poor condition he could not be saved despite the hard work of the vet.
The first edition has proved popular with followers who are eagerly awaiting the next one.
In recent weeks, two new volunteers have joined the centre helping Maz with day-to-day care of the dogs and a kind donation of a van has been offered to help transport dogs to and from the vets.
