Largest rollercoaster in Europe to open in Tarragona

THE north-eastern region of Tarragona is preparing to open a new theme park, named Ferrari Land, which will feature the largest and fastest rollercoaster in Europe. The park which is due to open in 2017 will include a hair-raising 112 metre high ride as the main attraction.

Ferrari Land España will be based in the Port Aventura World complex in the Catalan province of Tarragona and tickets are due to go on sale later in the year.

The theme park has announced that work has now been completed on the ride which is the third largest in the world. Currently the largest European ride is the Shambhala ride also in Port Aventura which stands at 76 metres.

The length of the new ride will be 880 metres and will begin with riders travelling from 0 to 180km an hour in five seconds and also includes a complete vertical drop along the route. There will also be a spectator stand for those people who want to watch instead.

The theme park will also include Formula 1 simulators for both adults and children and a race circuit with mini F1 electric cars with a top speed of 11km an hour.

This is to be the second Ferrari land in the world with the first being in Abu Dhabi. The investment for the theme park is €100 million.
