FESBAL, the Spanish Food Bank Federation, and La Caixa’s social group have announced a new ‘No child without a mustache’ milk collection campaign.
Last year, thousands of people made donations and helped raise one million litres of milk for needy families, which the organisers are hoping to beat this year.
Donations can be made through La Caixa bank’s website, on www.granrecogidadeleche.es, or by texting the word ‘leche’ to 28024, and there will also be collection points at the 44 branches of Caixa bank in Almeria province until May 20.
There are currently 65,859 food bank users in Almeria province (1.7 million in Spain as a whole, 350,000 of whom are children) who need help to get by.
La Caixa has started the ball rolling with an initial donation of 50,000 litres of milk, and has pledged to donate another litre for every 10 litres collected.
