Carolina Marin, European Badminton Champion twice.
CAROLINA MARIN, the 22-year-old Huelva-born badminton player, has become European Champion for a second time. She has achieved the coveted title in the Women’s Singles tournament, playing against Scottish player Kirsty Gilmour, who is ranked second-best in Europe and 21st in the world.
The Andalucian badminton star was not fazed by her opponent and beat the Scotswoman in 43 minutes, with a score of 21:12, 21:18.
The European Badminton Championship took place in the French town of La Roche-sur-Yon and has become an excellent stage for the young Spaniard to showcase her talents. She is a favourite to win Gold at this summer’s Olympics in Rio.
Marin achieved her first European Badminton Champion title at the 2014 championships in the Russian city of Kazan, and the Spanish press was eager to highlight and celebrate the success of their sportswoman.
It is expected that she will perform well not only against her European counterparts, but non-EU players at the Rio Olympics too, as she is currently classed as the world number two in her discipline by the Badminton World Federation.
