Eyesore eliminated at last

SALOBREÑA CASTLE: The monument is now revealed in all its splendour.

FOLLOWING two years of putting up with the crane next to the castle, Salobreña residents and visitors breathed collective sighs of relief this week as the offending contraption was finally dismantled and removed.

The crane was needed during renovation works carried out on the Moorish castle, explained local mayor Maria Eugenia Rufino, but is no longer required. However, Rufino stressed, this is not the end of the work as there are more plans for further renovation works to reveal the monument in all its splendour.

Now, the mayor continued, improvement work to the Paseo de las Flores can begin with plans including creation of a bathroom facility to allow for organisation of events in the historical centre, tidying up the entrance area and removal of an arch which had to be built to allow vehicles to pass during works on the castle.
