Benidorm taking annual pilgrimage

TRADITIONAL: Preparations were undertaken at the Almudena Church.

BENIDORM’S Nuestra Señora del Rocio Society began the traditional preparations for the annual pilgrimage to Almonte.

Society members on foot and around 100 horsemen met at the Almudena Church before walking up to Benidorm’s main church, San Jaime and Santa Ana, for the customary Triduo and Simulacro.

The procession then went to the former town hall building in El Torrejo, where the mayor Toni Perez signed the society’s book of honour, wishing luck and a safe journey to those travelling on to Almonte.

The town in the Doñana National Park in Huelva is the pilgrimage’s destination, where the participants will arrive on the Sunday before Whitsun.
