A TOTAL of 70 teams from the motoring world, from all corners of Spain, converged on Cuevas de Almanzora over the weekend for the eleventh ‘Lower Almanzora’ rally event.

The event, which took place from April 22-24, is included in the Spanish off-road vehicle rally championship. It covered 500 kilometres including the municipalities of Arboleas, Pulpi, Huercal-Overa, Taberno and Albox in addition to Almanzora.

Antonio Segura of the club ‘Andinas Racing,’ who organised the event, explained: “The event follows the same system as a stage of the Dakar Rally.”

Vice President of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation, Manuel Vidal, highlighted the importance of Almeria on the national racing calendar. He said: “It is a good investment since people come from outside, and get to know the province though sports.”
