Helping Alberto

Alberto and some of the fundraisers.

TWO volunteers of Javea’s original charity shop and library walked 29 kilometres in a successful bid to boost Alberto’s fund.

Alberto is nine-years-old and suffers from a severe muscular disease. He is unable to control his body and is therefore confined to a wheelchair. As he is getting bigger and heavier it is becoming more difficult for his mother to lift him and the wheelchair into the car.

They desperately need an adapted car in order to take him to school, therapy sessions and specialist appointments in Valencia and Alicante. Two keen walkers (Aileen and BJ) who work at the Original Charity Shop decided to take on The Mirador Challenge, which is 29 kilometres and takes in all of Javea’s 15 beautiful Miradors.

They joined the GYMKINS team along with Kinsa, Patricia and Sue and walked the distance in five hours and 30 minutes. The aim was to raise €2,000 for Alberto’s Fund but thanks to the generosity of staff and clients of the Original Charity Shop and Library, private sponsors, family and friends the fantastic total of sponsorship money amounted to €3,035.

Alberto’s mother was amazed, extremely happy and very grateful and hopes that the remaining amount needed will be raised so that the dream of having an adapted vehicle soon becomes a reality. If you wish to contribute to Alberto’s Fund please contact the Original Charity Shop and Library or see www.charityshoplibrary.com for more details.
