Hundreds affected by gastroenteritis outbreak presumably caused by bottled water in Catalonia

THE health authority of Catalonia has reported that 678 people have had to be treated for gastroenteritis in the last few days, presumably as the result of consuming bottled water.

The information was released through the Twitter account of the health authority, which indicated that as of Saturday (April 16), 678 people have been treated by medical workers for a wide range of symptoms including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and high fever.

In the wake of the outbreak, bottled water distributor Eden Springs España indicated in a statement that in Barcelona and Tarragona, it had pulled large batches of the water that came from its source in the Font d’Arinsal spring in Andorra as a preventative measure.

The health authority is currently in the process of collecting scientific samples from different plants and distributors in an effort to figure out the origin of the outbreak.
