EMERGENCY services were forced into swift action to save a British couple in Santa Pola, Alicante, on Wednesday April 13 after their mobile home veered off the N-322 road and came to rest on one of the town’s famous salt pans.
The accident happened at around 1.30pm when the driver of the vehicle was apparently forced to swerve violently in order to avoid an oncoming car.
Water had started to fill the mobile home as the fire service arrived on the scene, and the 69-year-old female passenger was evacuated through a window using a ladder borrowed from a local resident.
The 71-year-old driver, who was using special controls, had to be rescued via the roof of the vehicle due to complications associated with his paraplegic condition.
The precise nature of injuries sustained by the pair remain unconfirmed at present, but firemen reported that the driver had sustained a possible broken arm, while his wife complained of pain in her hip.
