Cala Del Soio in Altea’s La Olla is safe for the moment with popular protest preventing the potential destruction of its volcanic rocks through extending the El Portet Marina.
The regional government has now invalidated a 2010 building permit.
People power played an important part in the decision as residents frustrated excavators from destroying the rocks and organised protests.
Unfortunately, the battle isn’t over just yet, as the company seeking to expand the marina has two months to appeal the decision, but it remains a fine and heartening triumph for those who care about their community, and have worked tirelessly to protect it.
