WATERFRONT: Palma’s Paseo Maritimo may be changed. to open up the city to the sea.
THE Official Architects College of the Balearics presented the Palma City Council with a project aimed at improving the waterfront of the Paseo Maritimo of Palma.
The project presented on March 11 to the Palma’s City Council proposes to calm down the Paseo Maritimo area, widen it and open up the city to the sea. The transformation of the waterfront, however, will only be made possible if there is a reduction of traffic which means transforming the motorway into a boulevard with moderate traffic and reduced speed.
In the area of Llevant between the Conference Centre and the Moll Vell, a boulevard composed of two three-metre-wide lanes is proposed which would allow the surrounding free space and pavement to be widened.
According to the proposal, two buildings would be created next to Gesa and the Parc de la Mar lake would open up to the sea.
