BUMPER CROP: Thirty million kilos have been collected this campaign.
DESPITE drought conditions, what rain there was came at the right time last year for Alicante Province olive growers.
Optimism at the start of the campaign was not misplaced and growers expect a turnover of €20 million for this year’s 30-million kilo crop.
They are looking forward to their best season yet because the price of olive oil remains high owing to Andalucia’s lower production, explained Alberto Llorens from the Planes cooperative.
El Comtat produced the lion’s share of this year’s crop, with 17 million kilos.
