ON the twelfth anniversary of the train bombings in Madrid, all the victims associations have gathered in the Spanish capital city on March 11 in order to pay tribute to the 193 people who died in one of the worst terrorist attacks in Europe’s history.
In addition, the Spanish President Mariano Rajoy was also present for the first time in this event, as in previous years the Spanish Government used to be represented by the Justice and Interior ministers.
The ceremony, which took place in Puerta del Sol (Madrid), started with all the bells of Madrid churches ringing at the same time. The Spanish anthem and Mozart’s requiem were also played and, afterwards, a laurel wreath was taken to the in-memoriam plaque located in the façade of Real Casa de Correos (post office building).
