Town hall get-together for foreign residents

RON MEETING: Juan Francisco Perez and Victoria Curtis at the head of the table

FINESTRAT’S mayor Juan Francisco Perez and Other Nationalities’ councillor Victoria Curtis organised a RON meeting for foreign residents.

RON might recall the Spanish word for Rum but it is an acronym for Residentes de Otras Nacionalidades – the department headed by Finestrat’s British-born Victoria Curtis.

This meeting was held in La Cala, following the previous week’s RON get-together which was held in Finestrat’s old quarter.  The latest gathering was attended by approximately 20 residents of different nationalities although the majority were British.  Invited to voice proposals and worries, there was general agreement – and concern – regarding dog mess on the town’s pavements and dogs on the beach at La Cala.  Despite these snags, the residents congratulated the mayor for the revamp to Avenida Marina Baixa in La Cala and the open air sports activities held during the summer.

Juan Francisco Perez also expressed satisfaction. “The RON meeting gives us the chance to get closer to our neighbours and take note of their principal needs and the matters that worry them,” he said.

Nice to see “some” Town halls interested in their residents especially the foreign population. We have (off and on) lived in Benissa a long time, speak Spanish, pay all the local taxes and have lots of Spanish friends but get no help or advice from our Town hall, stems from the top because the mayor “talks a lot (I guess it’s good P.P. propaganda)” but does NOTHING for us and when anyone has a problem we are ignored… shame because the only one we did get support from, the ex-chief of Police, has “kind of retired” due to illness so even the Police can’t be bothered…. l have to say though that the surrounding Town Halls of Calpe, Teulada, Javea and Benitachell are better however..
