A female judge in a Madrid court asked a rape victim if she closed her legs

CALLS for the dismissal of a magistrate judge have been made following a hearing where a judge asked a rape victim whether she “closed her legs and female organs”.

The Clara Campoamor Association, a feminist movement, established in Madrid in 1985 has called for the dismissal after obtaining an audio of the insult by Judge María del Carmen Molina Mansilla.

After a shocked silence, the lady giving evidence responded to the question with a simple ‘Yes’, in the Madrid Provincial Court.

A psychologist commented: “Here we are talking about institutional ill treatment. That is to say she was abused in her home and went on to search for help and has now also been abused by the judicial institution.”

“Her attitude was aggressive and indignant against the victim”, said Blanca Estrella, president of the Clara Campoamor Association.

The victim, who is four months pregnant, went to her local police station in Vitoria, Basque Country, on February 16 to report a man who had “repeatedly abused her both sexually and physically”.

The feminist movement has accused the judge of having a poor attitude after fighting for years against such comments and said: “the psychological repercussions on the victim are nefarious.”

Many female victims of sexual abuse abandon their court complaint because of attitudes and difficulties in proving cases.
