STATUE: Honouring Nobel Prize writer Camilo Jose Cela.

MALLORCA will celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Nobel Prize winner Camilo Jose Cela who lived on the island for many years.

Awarded the Nobel prize for literature in 1989, Cela produced much of his work whilst living in Mallorca.

The main event scheduled is an exhibition entitled Cela in Mallorca.  The exhibition will be on display in September in the Formentor Hotel and will show the relationship Cela had with the island of Mallorca.

The College of Physicians in the Balearics will also commemorate the 100 year anniversary by sponsoring an award recognizing work connecting medicine and literature to honour the long-standing relationship that Cela had throughout his life and literary work with physicians in Mallorca.  In 1991, Cela was appointed Honorary Member of the College of Physicians in the Balearics.

A film documentary produced by director Pedro Barbadillo in honour of Cela will also be shown in September of this year.  In January of 2017, Mallorca will host the premiere of a ballet inspired by his work.
