THE MARBELLA Equality councillor Ana Leschiera announced on March 2 the programme of activities scheduled for the entire month of March inspired by International Women’s Day and some of these are listed below.

These activities will start with a conference on the role of the women in films organised by the University Women Association on March 7 in the Cortijo Miraflores Cultural Centre.

Then on March 8, the main event will take place in the Marbella Conference Centre at 5pm, and is aimed to acknowledge the women of Marbella and San Pedro Alcantara to coincide with the celebration of International Women’s Day.

According to Marbella Mayor Jose Bernal, “it should be a day of protest because to achieve real equality must be visible milestones achieved by our citizens and what is yet to change.

Next in the programme, March 14 sees an art and therapy workshop which will be held in Marbella, in the Cortijo Miraflores Cultural Centre from 5pm to 7pm but there are just 15 seats in this and an earlier workshop to be held in San Pedro on March 4.

Interested parties can register with the delegation for equality and diversity for these workshops

Art adviser Eloisa Sanchez Amilategui is scheduled to give a lecture about colour and its proper use by women on March 17, at 8pm at the Centro Cultural Cortijo Miraflores, which is promoted by the Association of University Women of Marbella.

In conclusion, the mayor will be presented with a ceramic mural by those involved in the activities as a symbol of the struggle that women have had to undergo in order to obtain their rights and freedoms.
