Twenty-five people arrested in large scale drugs bust

THE NATIONAL POLICE has dismantled a large scale drug smuggling unit specialising in the smuggling of hashish and other forms of marijuana throughout Spain and Europe.

Other illegal substances were also seized at the raid such as cocaine and psychedelic drugs. The criminal network concealed their profits in fake businesses, appearing to sell electronic cigarettes and precious metals.

Four marijuana plants have been raided and dismantled, three in the province of Albacete and one on the island of Ibiza. Police also found a truck containing 25 kilos of marijuana and 9 kilos of hashish.

All of those arrested belong to a large scale drugs operation specialising in the cultivation, transportation and sale of various drugs, especially marijuana. There were twenty men and five women among the arrested, all aged between 19 and 55.

The investigations started in mid-2015 when agents became aware of irregularities and received tip offs regarding a new drug production and smuggling unit.

Members of the gang were able to siphon away large profits into the mainstream banking system through the apparent retailing of precious metals, electronic cigarettes and other products and were therefore able to justify their high standard of living.
