CYCLISTS: Have a positive impact as they also travel outside of the high season.

MALLORCA is expecting the best season for cycle tourism in its history, with more than 140,000 enthusiasts arriving between February and May.

The cyclists will come from most of the countries in the European Union, and are expected to generate revenue of more than €110 million, 10 per cent more than in 2015.

The number of cyclists will be between 15 and 20 per cent higher than last year’s figures. According to Bicycle Holidays, which deals with the German, Swiss and Austrian cycle tourism markets, demand for the island has increased progressively in recent years, due largely to the excellent weather.

The Mallorca Hotel Business Federation (FEHM) said that hotels have adapted to the demand by diversifying their offers, and added that a positive impact of cycle tourism is that cyclists come throughout the year and not only during the high tourist season, benefiting areas including Platja de Palma, Alcudia, Can Picafort, Port de Pollença, Capdepera, Cala Millor and Calvia.
