A BOY of 14 months was admitted unconscious to Alicante General Hospital’s intensive care unit, affected by marihuana. The baby is now out of danger, doctors said, although earlier they had feared for his life.

He was taken from his grandmother’s home to A & E by a family friend, sources close to the case revealed.  Already suspecting that his condition was caused by drugs, medical staff immediately contacted the National Police who opened an investigation.

No addresses were revealed to the media although police sources described the family as dysfunctional “and having problems.”  The boy’s parents are separated and the mother is thought to have custody.

When questioned by the police, the child’s relatives claimed not to know what had happened to him or where the marihuana had come from.  The baby will remain in hospital for some days but an Alicante court ordered that the baby should not be returned to the family until a police investigation reveals exactly what happened.
