Year of the Monkey celebration in Gibraltar.

IT WAS very apt that the Lunar Year of the Monkey was celebrated in Gibraltar with a lion dance, drummers, characters in masks and a parade along Main Street on February 10.

It was launched in the presence of HE the Governor, the Consul General of China to London and the President of the Chinese Association of Gibraltar as well as Gibraltar ministers including Dr Joseph Garcia who said that “the formation of the Association reflected the multicultural nature of society in Gibraltar which was something that the Government valued and of which Gibraltar was rightly proud.”

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government of Gibraltar was already in discussion with Chinese companies over a number of commercial projects and said that Gibraltar too was ready to cooperate on cultural and commercial matters.

People born in the year of the Monkey are said to be witty, intelligent, and have a magnetic personality. They can be mischievous, curious, and clever, which makes them quite naughty.

Monkeys are masters of practical jokes, because they like playing most of the time which seems to be reflected in many ways by the Gibraltar macaques who are also quite promiscuous which is why two packs have had to be exported to Germany and to Scotland.
