NATIONAL POLICE OFFICERS have arrested three youngsters for alleged thefts with violence, which took place over a period of time in El Ejido, an announcement at the end of January confirmed.

The investigation started in December last year when officers became aware  that a teen had his phone stolen and the thieves forced him to go with them to exchange the stolen phone for a small amount of marijuana and €40 euros in cash before he was released near a commercial centre.

Three weeks after that, another minor was also the victim of a theft by youngsters who, after threatening him, stole his phone and took him with them in order to exchange the phone for drugs and €20 euros in cash. On this occasion, the victim was eventually released near a bus stop.

Two days later, a similar incident occurred. The thieves attacked another minor and kept him in a building after having robbed him of a phone, €50 and a public transport ticket but in this instance he managed to escape thanks to the assistance of a member of the public.

Investigations established that the perpetrators of the attacks did not live in El Ejido and the three attackers were identified as coming from Balerma, where they were promptly arrested.

Two of them, aged 19 and 18 were taken to court whilst the third member of the gang, who was aged 15, has been brought to the attention of the Office responsible for children.
