DFS, Britain’s biggest designer, manufacturer and retailer of sofas is now officially operating in Spain, with the launch of their first store in San Javier.
As experts in designing and making sofas for more than four decades, the company has joined forces with Direct Furniture Spain bringing customers the widest choice of the best quality sofas and furniture possible.
The CEO of DFS, Ian Filby, was present at the official inauguration of the store and was delighted to be back in Spain and the Murcia Region, where his grandparents originated from. This happy twist of fate has been years in the making with Mr Filby saying it was largely in response to customer demand: “DFS is the largest sofa company in the UK with 26 per cent of the market share and we are pleased to now be in Spain. The market is picking up and the demand is here from the expats. We have already had a great reaction. Customers will be able to get the great DFS quality product along with our 10 year guarantee.” He added: “I hope it will be the first of many and we are optimistic we could open more showrooms.”
In this modern era, web business is growing more and more and DFS is no different. The new showroom in San Javier is equipped with its own online computer points and tablets so customers can see and test for themselves the quality and comfort of the sofas, before seeing the full range available online that can be shipped from the UK and then locally delivered from San Javier. This side will be dealt with by Paul Airey and Carlos Conejero.
These are familiar faces in the furniture world having operated in the area for over 13 years. Paul said their collaboration with DFS in the UK means customers will now have an even bigger choice in sofas and dining room and bedroom furniture. They will benefit from the same DFS guarantees given to customers in the UK, but with the friendly service and reassurance of dealing face to face with a local business. He said the store has been completely redesigned and refurbished, giving a fresh modern look which was welcomed with much enthusiasm.
With a cava and canapé reception and live entertainment from a leading flamenco guitarist and dancer, customers old and new were able to view the new look store along Ctra de San Pedro Pinatar. The night saw a raffle being held with all proceeds being divided between four local charities; Aidemar, Help Murcia Mar Menor, Help at Home and MABS. Paul said: “We sponsored them as the old DFS for 10 years and are pleased that with our new collaboration, DFS in the UK are equally as happy to keep supporting local causes.”
The winner of the raffle was Lezley Bullivant who received furniture vouchers for €1,000. Lezley, a counsellor for MABS, was present along with the charity’s area coordinator Janet Bell who said the prize “was well deserved.”
dfs is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am-5pm and Saturdays 10.30am-1pm.
