THE Bankia group has announced that it will not make any charges in respect of operating a personal account provided they credit their account with a minimum of €450 a month from wages or €200 from a pension.
In addition to the account itself there will also be no charges for use of debit cards, deposit of cheques or transfer of funds in an effort to retain customer loyalty and in order to attract new customers.
It appears to be a refreshing change of direction for a bank to actually reduce its charges and if successful, will almost certainly see other banks follow suit.
