Costa Blanca Police forces share knowledge

THE Chief Inspector of the Local Police of Pilar de la Horadada, Jose Antonio Hernandez, has visited the Central Local Police of La Nucia.

The purpose of the visit was to be shown the camera system for traffic control and surveillance in La Nucia. Accompanying him was the Councillor for Citizen Security, Jose Tomas Saura. They met with La Nucia’s Local Police Chief, Javier Burrueco and Serafin Lopez, Councillor for Citizen Security. They were joined by the Mayor of La Nucia, Bernabe Cano.

The municipality pioneered the installation of this service and it has become a benchmark at regional level.

Throughout the morning they visited the different departments of the public safety building in La Nucia, which opened in November 2006. The focus of the visit was the telecommunications room and the camera system controlling and monitoring traffic. A total of 51 surveillance cameras have been installed on various roundabouts and at other strategic points in the municipality, as well as 16 OCR (license plate recognition) systems.

The surveillance system is centralised in the Central Local Police building and monitored 24 hours a day. All images are stored and checked for suspicious registration numbers which have been detected by the OCR cameras.
