Ironman brings economic strength to Alcudia

CARLOS LOPEZ in last year’s Ironman Mallorca.

IRONMAN 2015 sports event had an economic impact of some €9,050,612 with host town, Alcudia, benefiting greatly.  A recent study carried out by the business economics department at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) looked at the social and economic impact such an event would have on a host town.

It seems that hosting such an event, especially when accommodation nearby is needed, is an opportunity for many to benefit and whilst Alcudia Town Council spent €74,362 on the event – 13 other municipalities spent €50,051 between them – the town was rewarded in full.

Ironman 2016 will take place on May 7 in Alcudia.
