US has banned Almeria peppers

THE Coordinator of Farmers’ Associations, COAG, has said that alarm over the presence of the Mediterranean fruit fly in Almeria peppers is ‘unjustified’.

The United States has banned peppers from entering the country from Spain, so COAG has asked the Ministry of Agriculture to deal with the matter quickly so companies which correctly carry out the protocol to detect the fruit fly are not damaged.

The Provincial Secretary for COAG, Andres Gongora, explained that all companies  carry out these checks and the system is working correctly, although an isolated problem may have occurred.
